SAMBOR PREI KUK INSCRIPTIONS

Prei Kuk is the name of the forest which now occupies the site of the ancient city of Sambor in the Province of Kampon Svay.

The inscription is written in Sanskrit and contains 15 verses in AnuShtubh metre. After an invocation to Kadambeshvara and eulogy of King Isanavarman, it records the installation of a Sivalinga in 549 Saka (627 AD) by an official of King Isanavarman, named VIdyavishesha. In his eulogy, attention may be drawn to the various branches of knowledge in which he excelled.
